| It's Love |
Tinder is like the world whispering seductively in your ear “I am your oyster”. You begin your journey in awe of all the “choices” you never knew you had. Swipe left for HELL NO! Swipe right for Hello!! However, you eventually find yourself depressed, creeped out, and slightly attracted to the guy holding a gnome in front of his junk.
Realizing that the Tinder world is not your
oyster, you will come to know that one out of every 50 profiles, one maybe a
match. So stay strong!
I joined Tinder last month after realizing that
two of roommates were on a date every night of the week, and the house was just
too quiet for my liking. I had known about Tinder for sometime but didn’t join.
I’d like to say I was stubborn and thought it was stupid but its more because I
had an Android. My friends raved about all the hot guys they matched up with
and the dates they would go on. It all sounded so appealing.
I was feeling pretty good with the matches I had
within that first week. Tinder is essentially a more
relationship-centered, less meet-up-and-have-sex version of Grindr. On Tinder,
both men and women flip through Facebook pictures of the opposite or same sex,
and gawk and gush before selecting a few pretty faces from the yearning masses.
There’s a short bio, age and mutual friends listed, but who’s really paying
attention to that stuff when your Tinder flame is wearing next to nothing
whilst flexing in their bathroom.
I had never felt so shallow while online dating
before. Match.com at least made an effort to match me up with someone I might
actually have something in common with. As I spent more time in my new app, I came
to realize that it was essentially a copy and paste only the best of yourself
from you Facebook profile. How boring!
A friend
of mine asked me to write on the virtues of Tinder. I couldn’t come up with
anything. Tinder is an anonymous way to reject the people you would probably
nicely reject in public. There is nothing respectable about Tinder; however,
there is nothing horrible about it either. I would say Tinder is a nice way to
potentially meet people when you don’t want to spend a lot of time. I will
stick to my form of meeting new people; LARPing in the park :)
I am
20-something just trying to figure it out.
